Citing Spark in your Discussion and Assignments
We fully expect you to use Spark to enhance your learning experience at LAPU. It is critical always to cite where you get information when sharing in discussions or assignments. Review the examples below to get started:
In Parenthetical Citations
Your paragraph of text (Nectir.io, insert year).
Completed ExampleWhen asked "can you explain what a parable is?" Spark the BIBL 230 course assistant generated text that said, "A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson" (Nectir.io, 2024).
In Reference Page Citations
Nectir.io (insert year). Spark (insert course code version) [Large Language Model]. Insert URL for course assistant.
Completed Example:Nectir.io. (2024). Spark (BIBL 230 version) [Large Language Model]. https://ai.nectir.io/dashboard/los-angeles-pacific-university-cluslxh5h0003k6191kwsuq9d/bot/bibl-230-clv2k01zh2530xq1gnkprnodb/chat
Points to consider when citing AI
⚠️ Course assistants are not considerd scholarly sources because they are not published. However, in your writing, you should still indicate how a course assistant supported your learning.
For an in-text citation, include the prompt you asked that generated the response.
In-text citation: (Nectir.io, 2024)
Narrative citation: Nectir.io (2024)
For a Reference page listing, provide the link to the specific course assistant for your course (see above).
When citing AI tools, we want to give credit to the authors of the algorithm that generated the response. For LAPU course assistants, Nectir.io should be cited as the algorithm author. Then, you can indicate Spark and your specific course as the "version" that you are using. Cite the current year that you used the course assistant.
Refer to LAPU's Academic Integrity Policy for more information on the university's expectations for appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence.
Citing generative AI is a new and emerging question in scholarship. See https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/how-to-cite-chatgpt for more information on citing and using AI models and software.
When you have a question, ask your professor!
